The AberInnovation team were delighted to celebrate a key milestone in November as they welcomed funders, University staff, community stakeholders and industry representatives to a Steel Signing Ceremony on 12 November. It was a chance to celebrate our construction progress and our innovation aspirations in Mid Wales and were very pleased that so many people could join us.
Guests were given an opportunity to sign a piece of steel in the IBERS Gogerddan Main Reception before hearing from our investors and key stakeholders about our shared vision for the Campus, including the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Elizabeth Treasure and the Innovation and Enterprise Campus’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr Rhian Hayward MBE.
Thankfully, the rain held off just long enough for us to be able to walk across to the site and watch the signed steel being hoisted into place.

The steel structure for the new Aberystwyth University Seed Biobank was completed by the beginning of the month, and the next phase was to lay the bricks for the base and to begin installing insulation. The steel frame has also been treated with flame-retardant paint.
By the end of the month, the steel structure for the Biorefining Centre was also complete. The next steps here will be to build and insulate the base, as with the Seed Biobank, before beginning construction on the roof. As the picture below shows, the Seed Biobank mezzanine is complete, ready to be finished with concrete early next month.
